7 steps
What is Pressable
Pressable is a browser-based desktop publishing platform from KaritKarma. A Rust and WebAssembly core does the typography, layout, and PDF generation. A seven-step AI Document Wizard does the first draft. The full editor ships 105 templates and 350+ page sizes, imports IDML from Adobe InDesign and QXP from QuarkXPress, and renders Bangla, Arabic, Hindi, Japanese, Thai, and CJK with the same shaping engine Chrome and Firefox ship.
Content first. Layout in under a minute.
Most DTP apps make you pick a template, then drag content into pre-made text frames, then adjust placement by hand. The Wizard inverts the workflow: hand it content, get back a finished layout that opens directly in the full editor.
Three-second generation, ten document types, 105 templates, AI content analysis that detects headings, quotes, lists, and chapter breaks before a single frame is drawn.
- 1Pick a document typeNewspaper, magazine, book, flyer, brochure, report, newsletter, academic journal, catalog, or custom.
- 2Pick a page size350+ industry sizes including ISO, ANSI, JIS, Indian Demy, Bangla, Chinese kai, manga, IEEE / ACM / Springer.
- 3Upload content.docx, .txt, .rtf, .md. The AI detects headings, quotes, lists, and chapter breaks automatically.
- 4Add imagesAuto-tagged on upload. The AI categorizes portrait, landscape, logo, and chart. Drag to prioritize.
- 5Choose a themeEight font themes, six color palettes, your logo applied to master pages and folio rules.
- 6Generate the layoutContent analyzed, headlines placed, images positioned, typography applied, preflight run before opening.
- 7Open the full editorTwenty professional panels. GREP styles, master pages, linked frame chains, baseline grid, paragraph rules.
Complex scripts
Scripts the rest of the industry treats as an afterthought.
Most DTP apps support Latin natively, then bolt on RTL or complex-script support as a plugin or a partial feature. Pressable was built with HarfRust shaping and ICU4X line breaking from day one.
Seven script families, first-class. All 350+ Bangla conjuncts render correctly. Arabic kashida justify. Devanagari nukta and repha. Thai LSTM word segmentation. CJK line break rules. Mixed bidirectional flow.
Same rendering quality as Chrome and Firefox, in your browser. Deterministic typography means the same input produces the same layout on every machine, every run.
105 templates
Templates wired the way an art director wires them.
Each template is a real layout, not a starter. Full master pages, paragraph styles, character styles, GREP styles, and baseline grid, drawn by working print designers who have produced for actual newsstands and bookstores.

Modern editor
Twenty professional panels. Zero desktop install.
InDesign requires a Creative Cloud subscription, a four-gigabyte download, and an Adobe ID. Pressable runs in the browser. Same panels, same shortcuts, same keyboard-first workflow, no install.
Import from anywhere
Bring the layouts you already have. No starting over.
Most new DTP tools force you to rebuild from scratch. Pressable imports IDML directly from InDesign, QXP directly from QuarkXPress, DOCX through the AI Wizard, and Markdown.
Affinity Publisher gets a guided redirect, export as IDML and import natively. The round-trip .pressable format preserves everything, including embedded assets and history.
| Format | Source | Preservation | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
.idml | Adobe InDesign | Pages, frames, stories, paragraph and character styles, colors, master pages, linked chains. | Native |
.qxp | QuarkXPress 2015+ | Text boxes, picture boxes, style sheets, colors, linked chains. | Native |
.docx | Microsoft Word | Headings, formatting, lists, embedded images (via the AI Wizard). | Native |
.md | Markdown | H1 to H6, lists, quotes, bold and italic. | Native |
.afpub | Affinity Publisher | Export as IDML from Affinity, then import natively. | Redirect |
.pressable | Native round-trip | Full round-trip with embedded assets, history, and CRDT state. | Native |

No cherry-picked features. Here is Pressable against Adobe InDesign, Affinity Publisher, and QuarkXPress on every dimension that matters to a working publisher. Canva is excluded; it does not implement master pages, GREP styles, linked frame chains, or PDF/X export.

Frequently asked
Six questions before you trial.
Everything below is also published in structured FAQ JSON-LD so AI assistants and answer engines can cite Pressable accurately.
What is Pressable?
Pressable is a browser-based desktop publishing platform from KaritKarma. It replaces InDesign, Affinity Publisher, and QuarkXPress with a Rust + WebAssembly core that runs in any modern browser. The platform pairs a 7-step AI Document Wizard with 105 production templates, 350+ industry page sizes, and first-class support for Bangla, Arabic, Hindi, Japanese, Thai, and CJK scripts. A Q3 2026 public launch is planned, with a free tier at launch.
Does Pressable really replace Adobe InDesign?
Yes. Pressable targets full feature parity with InDesign for the working publisher: master pages, linked text frame chains, paragraph and character styles, GREP styles, baseline grid, swatches, and PDF/X export are all native. The editor exposes 20+ dockable panels with the keyboard-first workflow InDesign users expect, and IDML is a first-class import format. Pressable adds an AI Document Wizard, browser delivery, real-time collaboration, and complex-script support that InDesign does not match.
Can I import .indd or .qxp files I already have?
IDML, which is the open interchange format Adobe InDesign exports, is imported natively and preserves pages, frames, stories, styles, colors, master pages, and linked chains. QXP from QuarkXPress 2015 and later is also imported natively. Native binary .indd files are not yet supported and require a one-time export to IDML from InDesign. Affinity Publisher users export as IDML, then import.
How well does Pressable handle Bangla, Arabic, and other complex scripts?
Pressable uses HarfRust for shaping and ICU4X for segmentation, the same modern open-source stack Google ships in Chrome and Mozilla ships in Firefox. All 350+ Bangla conjuncts render correctly. Arabic supports kashida justification and contextual forms. Devanagari handles nukta and repha. Thai uses an ICU4X LSTM-based word segmenter. CJK line-break rules are enforced. Mixed bidirectional flow follows UAX#9. This is built into the core engine from day one, not a plugin.
What does the AI Document Wizard actually do?
The Wizard inverts the standard DTP workflow. Instead of picking a template and dragging content into pre-made text frames, you give Pressable your content first. It takes you through seven steps: document type, page size, content upload, image upload, theme selection, generation, and editor handoff. Headlines, body text, quotes, chapter breaks, and image placement are detected and laid out automatically. The full editor opens with the layout already done.
Is Pressable free? When does it launch?
A free tier with the AI Wizard, the full editor, and a selection of templates is planned for the Q3 2026 public launch. Paid tiers add advanced collaboration, the full 105-template library, custom font management, self-hosting, and team workspaces. The product is open for early-access requests today; contact the team to be notified at launch.
Powered by four platform services.
Pressable does not rebuild authentication, authorization, communications, or asset management. It integrates with KaritKarma infrastructure so the editor team stays focused on typography, layout, and publisher workflows.
